The College of Islamic Sciences Discusses a Master’s Thesis on the Preferences and Choices in Al-Bahr Al-Madeed of Ibn Ajiba Al-Maghribi
The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Iraq discussed a master’s thesis entitled “The preferences and Choices in Al-Bahr Al-Madeed of Ibn Ajiba Al-Maghribi from the Beginning of Surat Al-Ma’idah to the End of Surat Al-Ra’d”, which was presented by researcher Abdul-Atheem Sattar Jassim, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shaker Abdullah.
The thesis dealt with the study of the interpretive preferences adopted by Ibn Ajiba Al-Maghribi, and the statement of the scientific method in choosing the strongest interpretational sayings, based on the evidence supporting these preferences, which contributes to providing a more accurate understanding of the Quranic verses. The thesis also included an introduction to Imam Ibn Ajiba, his scientific life, and his approach to interpreting the Quran with the Quran.
The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Abu Al-Fetuh Abdul-Qader Shaker as Chairman, and the membership of each of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abbas Rashid, and Dr. Muhammad Abdul-Aziz Falih, in addition to the thesis supervisor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shaker Abdullah.
The discussion witnessed in-depth scientific deliberations, as the committee praised the student’s research effort and emphasized the importance of the thesis in the field of interpretive studies, due to its role in shedding light on interpretive choices and their scientific preferences.
