A Seminar at the College of Islamic Sciences Discusses the Challenges of Monopoly and Competition in the Iraqi Economy

The Department of Islamic Banking and Finance, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College, held a scientific symposium entitled “Monopoly and Competition” on February 12, 2025, in the hall of Dr. Abdul Jalil Al-Fahdawi, may God have mercy on him.

The symposium was chaired by Assistant Professor Maher Aziz Abdul Rahman from the Department of Islamic Banking and Finance, Professor Dr. Rasul Abdul Sattar Abdul Jabbar, and Professor Dr. Enas Muhammad Rashid Al-Mashhadani from the College of Law and Political Science.

The symposium was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Kazim Khalifa Hammadi, who praised the importance of the topics discussed and emphasized their vital role in improving the economic environment in Iraq. He also provided great support for this scientific initiative that seeks to deepen understanding of economic and competition issues.

The lecturers at the symposium focused on the concepts of monopoly and competition in light of the economic challenges facing Iraq, stressing their role in driving economic development and enhancing the investment environment. The importance of improving the climate of confidence in local markets to encourage investments was also addressed.

Many of the college professors participated in the symposium, where rich discussions took place on the economic concepts that directly affect the performance of markets and the regulation of economic activity in Iraq. The role of the Competition Protection and Anti-Monopoly Law No. (14) of 2010 was also reviewed, which seeks to ensure a fair economic environment, protects the consumer and prevents monopolistic practices that hinder economic growth.
