“Crimes and Punishments in Sanhaja State (362-534 AH 973-1148 AD)”

A master’s thesis entitled “Crimes and Punishments in Sanhaja State 362-534 AH/973-1148 AD” was discussed at College of Arts, Department of History, Al IraqiaUniversity .

The thesis submitted by the student Falah Younis Abbas Shabib aimed to uncover the crimes that were committed in Sanhaja State and to reach the extent of their danger and their repercussions on the Sanhaja society, and their impact on the entity of the state itself and in all aspects. It also aimed to clarify the role played by the Sanhaja government in the way of dealing with crime and its perpetrators, in addition to trying to identify the causes of the political and sectarian conflicts that were sweeping Al Maghrib countries during that era.

The thesis included four chapters. The first chapter defined the crime and punishment and identified the deterrent authorities. The second one dealt with the crimes of the princes, governors and Sanhaja leaders in Sanhaja state. The third dealt with the revolutions that the Sanhaja state was exposed to, the conspiracies, intrigues and assassinations until its end at the hands of the Norman invasion while the fourth chapter discussed the events of administrative, economic and social crimes that occurred during the Sanhaja era.
