A Symposium at College of Education on: Reading History of Ottoman Empire

Department of History at College of Education, Al-Iraqia University, organized a symposium entitled Rereading the History of Ottoman Empire 1908-1924.

The symposium presented by Dr. Dirar Khalil Hassan and Assistant Lecturer Jinan Muhammad Hassan, Assistant Lecturer Israa Ghaithan Abdul-Jabbar has several axes, the most important of which is rereading the history of the Ottoman Empire, especially after the assumption of power by Union and Progress group who represented Turkish nationalist thought, the mechanism for introducing the nationalist idea by political and intellectual circles, and addressing the intellectual conflict within the sources of decision-making in Ottoman Empire, which was divided into a project of Islamic University .

One of the most important recommendations that came out of the symposium is to re-read Ottoman history in a new way of understanding and be alert to the point of view in which Ottoman history was written by the rulers after the First World War, in addition to returning to the history of Ottomans from their founding and reviewing their achievements and not being satisfied with readings of the last years of the History of Ottoman Empire.

The symposium was attended by a number of professors, lecturers and students of the department.
