A Symposium Entitled :(Changing Water Cover and its Impact on Salinization of the Soils of Yusufiyah Sub-District
Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at College of Arts, Al-Iraqia University, held a symposium entitled Water cover change and its impact on salinization of the soils of (Yusufiyah )district.
The symposium presented by Assistant Professor Dr. (Abdel-Baqi Khamis Hammadi) dealt with monitoring spatial changes of the land cover, which is one of the vital studies that require continuous follow-up of the phenomena that occur on the surface of the earth in order to determine methods of managing and developing various natural resources and the possibility of their sustainability.
Remote sensing technologies play an active role in integrated surveys to detect the amount of land cover change through the difference in values of digital reflectivity resulting from the data recorded by high-resolution sensors within different spectral fields that are able to show differences between environmental components on a regular basis, which GIS programs can deal with and prepare objective maps that show the difference and variance. temporal values of these surveys in order to know the accuracy of the satellite data and the validity of the spatial changes on the ground, this required conducting a field visit to the research area to find out about these changes and matching them coordinately with the satellite data, as well as conducting personal interviews with samples from the people of the region to find out the most important stages of the development of the water cover for the period (1987). -2020).
The researcher’s choice of this topic came after viewing the area in kind and meeting a number of its people, especially since it suffers from the problem of soil salinization, which worsened after 2003, which negatively affected the change of its land cover.
