Master Thesis on (Effect of Interleukin-33, Interleukin-13 and Virulence Factors of Candida Albicans in Patients With Renal Failure)

A discussion took place at College of Medicine at Al Iraqia University, a master’s student in Medical Microbiology Branch (Muthanna Nazzal Abdullah) about his tagged thesis (Effect of interleukin 33, interleukin 13 and Virulence Factors of Candida albicans in Renal Failure Patients in Kirkuk City).

The study aimed to: Determine some virulence factors for Candida albicans and determine the levels of interleukin 33 and 13 present in the blood of patients with Renal Failure.

The study found:

A significant increase in the level of interleukin 33 and 13 in serum in presence of Candida albicans in patients with chronic renal failure when compared with patients who do not carry Candida albicans.

In addition to noting a significant, very high level of both interleukin 33 and 13 in serum in patients with chronic renal failure when compared with healthy individuals. It should be noted that this study is the first of its kind to link interleukin-13 with kidney failure.

The study also proved: that all isolates of Candida albicans from patients with renal failure were all sensitive to the antifungals used (Fluconazole, Voriconazole, Caspofungin, Micafungin, Amphotericin B, and Flucytosine).

The study recommended:

More research on antifungals, as well as more studies on interleukin (interleukin) and its association with other immunological indicators.

After listening to discussion committee’s remarks, the thesis was accepted in form and content, and a master’s degree was granted to the student with a grade of excellence. On this occasion, Deanship of the College of Medicine congratulates Dr. Muhammad Hussein and Dr. Haifa Mahmoud Fahd, supervisors of the thesis, and the Postgraduate student Muthanna Nazzal Abdullah for this scientific achievement, wishing them progress and giving in serving educational process of our country.

The discussion was attended by the Dean of College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Jamal Al-Qaisi, and a number of college professors and postgraduate students.

The discussion committee consisted of:

Prof. Dr. Jassim Muhammad Karhout / University of Baghdad – College of Medicine – Chairman

Assistant Prof. Dr. Nada Hisham Abdel Latif /Al- Iraqia University – College of Medicine – Member

Prof. Dr. Sana Khader Jamil /Al- Iraqia University – College of Medicine – Member
