A Master’s Thesis Discusses (Evaluation of Urinary Tract Infections and Immunological Manifestations of Iraqi patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis).
College of Medicine at Al- Iraqia University, a discussion of thesis of a master’s student in Medical Microbiology Branch (Israa Muhammad Jassim) took place on her thesis tagged (Evaluation of urinary tract infection and immunological profile in Iraqi patients with Rheumatoid arthritis)
The study aimed to: clarify the relationship between rheumatoid arthritis and urinary tract infection and identify the most frequent bacteria causing urinary tract infection in Iraqi patients with rheumatoid arthritis and to measure the level of IL18, IL32, IL37 in patients’ blood serum and investigate whether they are predictive parameters of disease progression and their association with disease activity.
The study found: an increase in the incidence of urinary tract infection in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, and E. coli bacteria were the most frequent of the type of Gram-negative bacteria, while Staphylococcus hemolytic was the most frequent of the type of Gram-positive bacteria. The levels of IL18, IL32, and IL37 were higher in the blood serum of patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
The study recommended:
Study of other injury factors or other environmental factors for the emergence and progression of rheumatoid arthritis in Iraqi patients.
After listening to the discussion committee’s observations and student’s defense of her thesis with scientific evidence and evidence, the thesis was accepted in form and content, and a master’s degree was awarded to the student with honors.
