Arts College Discusses: (Thermal Suitability of Potato Crop in Iraq by Using GIS)
Faculty of Arts, at Al- Iraqia University, Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems, discussed a master’s thesis entitled Thermal suitability of potato crop in Iraq using geographic information systems.
The thesis presented by Amer Mahmoud Ibrahim aimed to know the thermal requirements for potato crop in the study area in all forms of heat, from minimum, maximum, optimum, accumulated heat, and soil heat, and to reveal the thermal variation in the study area by addressing the eleven thermal stations during the period (1988-2020) and the effect of this variation in temperature on the cultivation of the crop in the study area and the study of effect of this variation in temperature during the study period onĀ appropriateness of growing .
The thesis included three chapters, where the first chapter included the thermal requirements for the potato crop, including the minimum, maximum and optimum heat, as well as the accumulated heat and soil temperature, thermal regions suitable, semi-suitable or unsuitable for potato crop according to several criteria. The second chapter included analyzing thermal data in the study area and determining the extent of their variation and the effect of this discrepancy on potato crop, while the third chapter included determining the appropriate, semi-suitable or unsuitable thermal regions for the potato crop according to several criteria.
