A workshop Entitled (Coding for Kids)
Computer and Internet Center at Al- Iraqia University, in cooperation and sponsorship of College of Education for Girls, held a workshop entitled “Coding for kids” participated by number of teachers’ sons at Al- Iraqia University and presence of Prof. Assist. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Ali and a group of teachers and students. The workshop opened with the Iraqi national anthem, recitation of verses from the Noble Qur’an, followed by a welcoming speech by Director of Computer and Internet Center to the participants in the workshop, indicating that the university, college and center are open to technology in general and to build a technical generation in particular.
The workshop aims to train and teach and develop children’s abilities to program robots and to make the best use of information technology and modern technical devices which will open future horizons and job opportunities for children by working as a team with their colleagues, as the number of trainees reached (22) children. The workshop included an explanation of the children’s algorithm and visual programming, in addition to the practical application of Scratch to apply the programming, as well as a practical show of the manufacture and programming of robots.
Finally, Dean of the College praised efforts of the staff in organizing this workshop, and gifts and certificates of appreciation were granted to the participating children.
The workshop recommended submitting a proposal to Ministry of Education to include programming and robotics in the curricula in primary and secondary schools to keep pace with scientific and technological development in the world and to develop students’ skills in this important field.
